How to get there

You can find your way there using ‘Dunrovin Country Store’ in Google Maps. It’s in Vass, NC on US 1.

It’s on the side of the road and as you’re driving up the colorful signs make it hard to miss. If you’re unsure just keep an eye out for the big ‘Amish Food’ sign because it’s easy to spot.

There’s a small parking area in front of the main entrance and it looked like another parking area on the other side of the building.

What to spot from the road

One area of the park

There’s an awesome free park

OK, now this is pretty cool.

There’s a walk-through park that’s like walking through a mix of George of the Jungle and a magical forest.

Statues of everything from dragons to zebras line the area, bright colors stand out against the natural greenery, and you can see a variety of birds as well as a few other animals.

It’s small but there’s so much there that makes it feel much bigger than it actually is.

You can get up close with all sorts of birds

The park is home to a bunch of rescued tropical birds – it’s actually the Vass Tropical Bird Rescue Park.

Some of the birds are a little shy, while others are curious and will chat to you while you’re there. One large macaw kept saying ‘peek a boo’ when I turned my back and it was the creepiest thing but also hilarious. Another cute cockatoo kept saying ‘hello’ when he wanted a chat.

As you walk through, you’ll pass the aviary which has a large communal bird area and even a separate aviary for a toucan. Then you walk to the other areas which house macaws, peacocks, chickens, and other interesting birds.

Towards the end of the park you can also see some cute pigmy goats, a teacup pig, and rabbits.

Again, if you’ve got kids, it’d be a treat for them.

The country store is full of unique items

After all the excitement of the park, you can head inside to check out the huge range of items in the store itself. You’ll be visiting the largest and oldest country store in Moore County which is pretty cool in itself.

I think this would be a great place to go if you’re in the market for gifts to send to people back home because there’s so many unique things to choose from.

It’s got just about everything you can imagine from interesting food items to cook with, home decor decorations, things for your garden like cool pots, and just about every type of candy you could imagine.

If you want to get a snack for the road they have ice cream and fudge right at the entrance too. I’m on the gains train at the moment so I didn’t get any, but it looked pretty darn good.

The store is jam packed and aisles are narrow, so to make it easier to get around in there I wouldn’t recommend having a stroller or big backpack.

Other things to do nearby

You could pair a visit to the Dunrovin Country Store with an outdoor adventure to Weymouth Woods. It’s only about 15 minutes drive away and has some easy and pretty trails to explore.

I stopped by Dunrovin after visiting Reservoir Park which is about 10 minutes away. Reservoir Park has an easy and very scenic walk around a lake which makes for a nice outdoor adventure.
